Landlord and Burbank REALTOR’s Guide to Neighbors and Fences

Landlords and Burbank REALTORs are often faced with issues regarding the rented property and neighbors. Here are three things they should keep in mind.

1. Ordinances usually restrict backyard fences to be built up to six feet and front yard to four feet. Trees and bushes, also known as natural fences are limited to five to eight feet. A variance may be requested from the city if the landlord needs to go beyond the fence restrictions.

2. Landlords need to keep the premises secured by seeking advice from professionals, briefing tenants about crime possibilities and handling tenant problems or complaints promptly.

3. Landlords should not allow illegal activities such as drug using in the premises. Aside from including this in the policies in the lease agreement, landlords should properly screen tenants and accept only those who can abide with the agreements set out in the contract.
