Switch off computers or to use the standby mode and consume less than 100% power. Consider Energy Star rated new equipment.
Use power strips for equipment to switch these off completely instead of leaving them plugged into an outlet.
Use a laptop instead of a desktop and an LCD instead of a CRT monitor. Both consume one-third the power.
Change incandescents to compact florescent bulbs. For halogens, get the CFL versions which consume 25% less power. Use lamps and switch off lights when not in use.
Lower the thermostat by 10 degrees during the day and use ceiling fans and portable heaters to save on heating and cooling costs.
